Bogota- Clashes between left-wing rebels and government forces in Colombia in a 24-hour period have left at least 33 dead, the army announced yesterday.
The announcement came amidst a major government offensive against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia ( FARC), the country's largest rebel group, and a visit by high level US mission reviewing the status of the $1.3 billion anti-drug "Plan Colombia ". Earlier in the day, the government and FARC mutually agreed to suspend the resumption of peace talks.
