The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ms Liz O'Donnell, has announced an additional emergency funding of £300,000 in response to the continuing relief efforts in Mozambique.
The latest allocation brings to £700,000 the emergency funding provided by Ireland Aid. This is in addition to the funds reallocated from Ireland Aid's development programme and brings the total Government funding for the disaster to £2.35 million.
"With the flood waters beginning to recede, the situation is now moving from a rescue phase to a relief phase," Ms O'Donnell said. "The Irish Government is committed to helping the people of Mozambique recover from the devastation caused by the floods." She said yesterday's allocation "will go towards funding the immediate relief operation and meeting the needs of those left homeless and destitute."
