LAGOS - Three members of Amnesty International were arrested in the Nigerian capital yesterday on their way to a diplomatic reception in Lagos. They were initially taken to Ojuelegba police station but later transferred to an unknown destination. No reason was given for the arrests, the organisation said.
The arrests come several days after the Minister of Special Duties, Mr Wada Nas, accused Amnesty of planning to "foment trouble" in the days leading up to the first anniversary of the executions of Ken Saro Wiwa and eight supporters of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People.
