Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government John Gormley has announced €3.5 million in funding for conservation projects around the country.
The funding will be allocated under the Civic Structures Conservation Grants Scheme 2008.
The scheme has received over 190 applications this year which will be rated by an independent panel of conservation experts. The applications relate to existing or former church buildings, monuments, canal locks, market houses, former barracks, bridges, public monuments and schoolhouses.
Announcing the funding, Mr Gormley said he was very excited by the diverse projects applying for funding under the scheme.
“The high level of community enthusiasm for heritage is evidenced by the number and variety of the buildings applying for funding,” he said.
