Threatening slogans were scratched on a car by vandals in Limerick at the weekend. In other incidents, 27 cars had their tyres slashed, windows broken and bodywork damaged.
The threat was scratched on a man's car outside his apartment in Kingscourt and the car was written off. Vandals broke panels, tore up seats, pulled out the dashboard and poured a substance into the petrol tank.
The car was examined by forensic experts.
Gardai are investigating whether the attacks were carried out by the same person or a gang at Mungret Street, Kingscourt and Dublin Road early on Saturday. Two parked cars were burnt out. There have been a number of other such incidents in the city in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, gardai are investigating an attack on a priest's car which had its four tyres slashed outside a presbytery.
