A £25 million development plan for the Mater Hospital in Dublin was officially approved by the Department of Health yesterday. It includes a new accident and emergency department, an outpatients/day procedures area, a new operating department and a supplies department.
The tender for the appointment of a design team will begin in the new year. It will include an overall plan for the entire hospital complex, including the transfer of the Children's Hospital, Temple Street, to the Mater site. Construction will begin in 1999.
