Mexico City - Mexico yesterday mourned the deaths of 22 people in a powerful earthquake and feared more bad news as rescuers searched remote areas for further victims.
Authorities warned the toll could rise as several of the 50 people hurt in Thursday's earthquake remained in a critical condition. The southern state of Oaxaca was worst hit, with 20 people dead. Government officials put the total death toll at 22, including three children, and radio stations reported a further six deaths in remote areas of Oaxaca.
The two-minute quake measured 7.4 on the Richter scale.
