Moscow - Twenty Chechen separatist fighters and two Russians were reported to have been killed in fighting that swept through Chechnya on Thursday and yesterday.

A Russian policeman died in a raid launched by separatist fighters in central Chechnya, the Interfax news agency quoted an official with the republic's pro-Russian interior ministry as saying. In a separate incident, a member of the city administration in the capital, Grozny, was shot dead by unidentified assailants.

Meanwhile, Russia said it had arrested a British national and two other people caught in possession of bomb-making equipment in a province bordering Chechnya.
