Dublin - The Department of Foreign Affairs has announced an additional grant of £200,000 to alleviate the food crisis in southern Sudan. The grant, awarded to UNICEF for emergency health care and therapeutic feeding programmes, follows a £100,000 aid announcement last week for a World Vision emergency food project.
The Irish aid agency Goal has announced it intends to increase food distribution in the famine-stricken region of Bahr El Ghazal from 11 to 18 metric tonnes next week. The agency estimates that up to 350,000 are under threat of starvation in the south Sudan area.
