Tel Aviv - An Israeli court sentenced an Israeli businessman to 16 years in prison yesterday for selling poison gas equipment to Iran in a case of treason and intrigue that has gripped Israel.
The three-judge Tel Aviv District Court panel wrote in its sentence that Nahum Manbar's crime was among the worst security offences in the annals of Israeli criminal history.
Manbar's lawyer, Mr Amnon Zichroni, who has alleged that presiding Judge Amnon Strashnov was improperly influenced by the Israeli Prime Minister, Mr Benjamin Netanyahu, said the defence would appeal to the Supreme Court to declare a mistrial.
