A 16-year-old boy was tonight charged with the murder of a young woman found dead in her home in Co Kildare. .

Rebecca Kinsella (19) was discovered with serious injuries in her house in Grattan Court, Celbridge, shortly before 11pm last night. She was pronounced dead at the scene by a local doctor.

Today, State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy examined the scene at the victim's family home.

Gardaí placed a blue screen up outside the house as forensic officers carried out her body in a plastic coffin to a waiting hearse.

Every blind in the house was drawn, and the street was empty as the body was driven away for a post mortem exam to be carried out.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested in the early hours of this morning by officers investigating the death and is being held at Naas Garda Station.

Tonight Gardaí said he had been charged with murder and would be appearing in Kildare District Court tomorrow.

The boy will remain in custody overnight, a garda spokeswoman said.
