A man who admitted handling £16,500 worth of stolen travellers' cheques four years ago was refused District Court jurisdiction yesterday. Christopher Kinahan (40), with addresses at Tamworth, Staffordshire, and St Theresa's Gardens, Dublin, pleaded guilty at the District Court to handling the cheques on June 10th, 1993.
Judge Gerard Haughton was told that the DPP had consented to the case being heard in the District Court on a guilty plea, but said he did not consider it a minor offence. He said he was sending the case to the Circuit Court as the full penalty should be available.
The defendant was remanded on continuing bail to appear again on February 4th for a book of evidence.
