A total of £150,000 in grant aid is to be provided to three countries in Central America to assist in their efforts to combat the effects of natural disasters, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ms Liz O'Donnell, announced yesterday.
The funding for local communities in Honduras, Nicaragua, and Guatemala is to help improve emergency preparedness in disaster-prone areas.
The Minister said the funding was particularly timely in the light of the heavy rains that had hit Central America over the past two weeks and which had forced thousands of people to flee their homes.
