Jakarta - At least 15 people were killed and hundreds made homeless by the devastating earthquake and tidal waves that hit the Banggai islands off Indonesian Sulawesi, officials and reports said yesterday.
Scores of coastal villages in the islands were reported to have been flattened by tidal waves following Thursday's quake, which measured 6.5 on the Richter scale. The state Antara news agency, quoting Central Sulawesi Governor, Mr H.B. Paliuju, reported from the provincial capital of Palu that 15 people had been killed.
