A girl who was knocked down by a hit-and-run motorist has been awarded £15,000 damages in the Circuit Civil Court.

The Circuit Court President, Mr Justice Esmond Smyth, was told that Tracy O'Sullivan (12), of Rossmore Road, Ballyfermot, Dublin, had suffered head and arm injuries.

Ms Sara Moorehead, counsel for the girl, said the parents had been concerned for some time that the child's school performances had been affected.

She asked the court to approve a £15,000 settlement offer from the Motor Insurers Bureau of Ireland, which meets liability of untraced drivers.
