Paris - A bomb ripped through a passenger train south of Algiers wounding 14 people, four of them critically, as troops besieged 30 rebels in western Algeria, an Algerian newspaper said yesterday.
The train was running between Algiers and the western city of Oran, Algeria's main oil and gas export hub. The bomb went off inside a carriage on Monday near Khemis Miliana, about 65 miles south-west of Algiers, said La Tribune.
The newspaper said worse carnage was only just avoided because "several" bombs also planted on the track did not go off.
