Algiers - Thirteen people were killed and 30 others injured yesterday when a bomb exploded in a marketplace in the Algiers suburb of El-Harrach, state radio said.
The attack occurred in the Boumati souk, one of the Algerian capital's busiest Friday markets, an exchange for used cars, produce, clothing and hardware, said the radio. It was the fourth attack in Algiers since the start of the month and the bloodiest since February.
The increase in bombings suggests that the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) may be returning to its tactic of targeting public places such as cinemas, markets and trains in response to operations by the Algerian security forces. --(AFP)
