More than 120 jobs are to go in Limerick following the closure of the Castletroy Park Hotel today.

More than 120 jobs are to go in Limerick following the closure of the Castletroy Park Hotel today.

Management at the four-star hotel, which is one of Limerick's largest, had put together a rescue package in an attempt to secure its future after admitting that it was suffering trading difficulties.

However, it emerged today that the talks had failed and the hotel had ceased trading immediately.

Local Sinn Féin representative Maurice Quinlivan said the latest jobs loss would be a “devastating blow" to the area.

Earlier this month, Dell announced it was moving manufacturing operations to Poland, with the loss of 1,900 jobs at its Limerick plant.

A further 200 redundancies were announced two weeks ago at the Kostal plant in Abbeyfeale.
