A RECRUITMENT drive takes place in Cork this Saturday for 100 new medical positions at a private hospital in Mahon.
The €90 million Cork Medical Centre, which opened last October, will provide the new jobs in nursing, theatre, radiology, laboratory and pharmacy.
Fifty successful applicants will take up employment in March, with the remaining 50 to be recruited over the summer.
The staff will work at the clinic’s operating theatres, due to open on March 14th, and will join 50 staff who are currently employed in the running of day patient facilities.
Once fully operational, the hospital will employ 525 people, including 100 doctors, consultants and surgeons with a support of 75 medical staff.
The hospital will operate a “one nurse per patient bed” policy and will eventually employ 150 nurses across all departments.
The remaining staff will be employed in services such as ophthalmology, oncology and health screening for executives.
The entire centre, which was opened last year by former minister for foreign affairs Micheál Martin, has been kitted out with infection-resistant fittings and fixtures.
It also screens patients for the MRSA bug on admission.
The hospital is operated by Sheehan Medical, which is also behind the Galway Clinic and Dublin’s Blackrock Clinic.
