A north Co Dublin man involved in a robbery in which a man was stabbed in the chest has been jailed for 10 years. Mr Frank Garvey (78) was also stabbed in the hand and suffered a punctured lung and fractures to his cheekbone.
Thomas Gorman (30), of Park Avenue, Brackenstown, pleaded guilty to robbery on June 15th, 1999, at North Street, Swords. Judge Patrick McCartan said it was one of the worst cases of its kind to come before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Det Sgt Gus Keane told the court that Gorman and another man broke into Mr Garvey's home at 3 a.m. The other man beat Mr Garvey and demanded money. He stabbed him in the chest with a knife.
