TRISH KIERNAN AND Scott Walkin were married on St Valentine’s Day in St Joseph’s Church, Geevagh, Co Sligo by Fr Peter O’Brien. They were joined by 115 family members and friends for a celebration in Cromleach Lodge Country House in Castlebaldwin, Co Sligo.

From Granard, Co Longford, Trish is the third-eldest of Madeleine and John Kiernan’s seven children. She has three brothers, Patrick, Michael and Sean, and three sisters, Anne, Kathleen and Mary. Trish and her sisters all played Gaelic football for Longford at junior level. Mary continues to play for Longford County on the senior team.

Trish moved to Dublin in 1993 and trained as a nurse at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital on Eccles Street. After graduation, she worked there as a staff nurse. She now works in medical sales with cardiac services. The family interest in science and medicine is strong and her siblings include a general practitioner, a pharmacist and a forensic scientist.

Scott is from Ballina, Co Mayo. He is the eldest son of Frances and Michael Walkin’s four children. His brother Simon, an engineer, was his best man. His sisters are Kelly and Suzanne. Scott attended boarding school at the Cistercian College, Roscrea, Co Tipperary and then went on to study medicine in University College Dublin. He had the opportunity, while a student, to spend some time with the Flying Doctors in Australia. After graduating in 1999, he worked as an intern in the Mater, where he and Trish first met. He now works as a GP.
