Baltimore walkingYou're probably too late for today's guided treks at Baltimore Walking Weekend, on Reengaroga Island and Cape Clear Island, but tomorrow you could join walks at Lough Hyne Nature Reserve (below) and on Sherkin Island. Each walk costs €5 for adults and €2.50 for10- to 15-year-olds; under-10s are free. The ferry costs extra. Call Valerie at 028-20197 or see baltimore.ie.
Famine Way walkTo entice more walkers and climbers, ARC Cancer Support Centre has cut the price of joining its Famine Way fundraising walk, in Co Mayo on November 6th and 7th, to €500 per person. This gets you two nights' BB and one dinner. Call Grainne Barnett on 01-8307333 or see arcchallenges.com or arccancersupport.ie.
Nire walksNext weekend's Nire Valley Autumn Walking Festival begins on Friday with a meet and greet that includes a slide show and advice on the weekend's guided walks: four graded routes on Saturday and three on Sunday. These walks will require experience and be unsuitable for young children. There will be a separate family walk on Sunday. Each walk costs €10 per person, or €10 per family for the family walk.
