Mud run:Ireland's dirtiest fun-run takes place on Saturday, March 26th, at Moyvalley Hotel and Golf Resort, Co Kildare.

Registration is open at mudrun.ie and the cost is €30pp or €100 for groups of four. For the first time there will be a mini-mud run – Mud Kidz – for younger participants, entry fee €10.

All money raised will also go to Barnardos. The run takes place over 5km while Mud Kidz is over a 750m course. Both will have mud pits, water holes and obstacles guaranteed to leave participants dirty and muddy. For details, contact Ciaran Curran, 086-3735874 or Derek McKay, 087-9786427.

Fiona Mullan from Mountain Sojourns is offering a ladies-only guided walk in the Mourne Mountains on Mother’s Day, Sunday, April 3rd. The walk costs €47 and participants will learn hillwalking skills as well as about the history, flora and fauna of the Mourne Mountains. There will be afternoon tea afterwards.

Fillies’ fund-raiser

The annual “Festive Fillies” 10km fundraising charity walk takes place along the banks of the River Barrow on May 28th. Organised by the women’s fund-raising group, The Festive Fillies, in conjunction with The Blackstairs Ramblers, there’s also a hillwalking option for the more adventurous. While this is a women’s event, men willing to dress up in drag are welcome. The fee is €20 per walker. Participants can register online at festivefillies.com.
