Step on it: Evolv's Pontas Velcro Rock Shoes hang tight even if you don't have a Velcro rock. Designed by the famed climber Chris Sharma, they feature a lurid paint job and something called Trax XT-5 rubber – apparently, just the right consistency for getting to grips with tricky footholds: the rubber is hard enough to support the climber but soft enough to mould around the contours of the rock face. Eagles Nest Outfitters’ Double Nest Hammock has room for the whole family – as long as that family weighs no more than 180kg. The hammock has 60cm more space than the Single Nest, and the stretchy nylon packs down to the size of two fists. It all weighs in at a little more than 500g – light enough to stow in a backpack so you have a more comfortable seat than everyone else at your destination. (£59/€65 from waterantics.co.uk.)
The touch screen of the LG Arena has a nifty layout based around a swivelling cube that will keep you entertained for about five minutes. The graphics are nice, although they won’t win over many iPhone fanatics. After the novelty of the customisable display wears off, it’s a handy enough phone. I liked the way the handset vibrated as you turn the “dial” of the virtual radio. (€99 from Meteor, meteor.ie.)
