Sirin Lewendon visits Homestore + More
Homestore + More opened two weeks ago in Tallaght. It's an Irish company and stocks goods at three price levels: good, better and best. Belfast-born Sirin Lewendon is an interior designer with projects on the go in London and Cyprus. Although she lives in Dublin, she is creative director of the Athens branch of London's David Gill high-end interiors store. "I love that you can get almost everything under one roof - from towels to microwaves to rubbish bins," she says. "I don't think they can be beaten on price - I had to look twice at a few things. Yet even the lower prices are good quality. I like the three price levels too: you can fit out the palace or the semi-d. They've gone for simple styles - particularly in bed linen and china - which is what people really want."
Simplicity 16-piece dinner service costs €52.95 with curved edges or €75.95 for the same set with angular edges: "This is what I would buy myself. It's very simple, fine quality and has a contemporary look that will never date. You could buy the set and add in extra bits as need be. An amazing price too."
Bedeck Bed in a Bag from €69.95: "You get the makings of a single bed for €69.95 or a double for €89.95 - a 13.5 tog hollow fibre duvet, a duvet cover, two hollow-fibre pillows, two pillowcases and a fitted sheet: great for teenager's room, and it's an Irish company."
Premier five-piece pot and pan set plus multi steamer and casserole dish for €69.95: "This is a really good price for everything you'll ever need - the biggest pot is 18 inches. It comes in stainless steel or a heat-resistant material."
Dyson Animal Vacuum, €459: "It's expensive but if you've got pets, it will get rid of all hairs. A dream buy but there's also a Philips 1800w vacuum for €79, which is strong too, and a small one for €59."
Sirin also recommends: 16-piece set of glasses, €29.95: "You always need more glasses." Bar style corkscrew, €34.99: "Attaches onto the edge of a counter and looks really smart." Large photo frame, €13.50: "Why pay a fortune for a silver frame?" Bed sheets from €11.50: "The wall of sheets is like a paint chart." Ditto towels: "Unusual colours like grey. €13.50 is an excellent price for a good quality bath sheet." Bath stands from €41.95: "It's impossible to find a good bath stand. There are substantial and sturdy ones in glass."
