AESOP’S FABLES
Based on the stories of Aesop, this play, written by Jack Healy and George Hanover, includes new takes on such classics as The Tortoise and the Hare and The Boy Who Cried Wolf. It runs until Saturday in a marquee on the grounds of the Gougane Barra Hotel in Cork. Tickets cost €7, or €25 for a group of four. At 4pm daily.
HANDBALL TOURNAMENT
As part of the 200th anniversary celebrations at St Nathy’s College in Roscommon, an open day for past pupils and staff takes place today from 11am to 5pm. This afternoon at 3pm, GAA president Christy Cooney will launch a handball exhibition tournament at the school. See stnathys.com for more
ANTRIM WALK
The Buttermmilk Bridge walk in Antrim is a short 1.5-mile route especially suitable to wheelchair users. It runs from the main street in Broughshane, along a river and back towards Houston’s Mill. Toilets and cafes are located along the route and much of it is level tarmac paths. See walkni.com
EMBROIDERY EXHIBITION
Celebrating 10 years of work from the Irish Guild of Embroiderers, this exhibition in the visitors centre in Phoenix Park in Dublin features work which is available to purchase or commission. Much of the content is a modern take on traditional embroidery, such as Poppies by Siobhán Dillon, and Homeward Bound by Myriam Broadhead. From 10am to 5pm each day and admission is free. PARNELL SUMMER SCHOOL
This annual school runs in Avondale in Co Wicklow until Friday, and this year focuses on the role of media in politics and society, with a variety of lectures, talks and panel discussions. Today features Elaine Byrne looking at corruption, while tomorrow Chris Morash looks at aspects of media history.
