My housemates: in their own words

Some people give us the low-down on their medieval past-times

Some people give us the low-down on their medieval past-times

Alex Chavanne- Wallace (27), Co Roscommon:I find living history a great outlet for my love for education and acting. From the Iron Age to the later 16th century, I have bounded out through time like a man with a Blue Box.

Johanna Woods (34), Carlingford:I never thought I would get the opportunity to travel back in time. Don't think the Lonely Planet covers this one!

Tomás Skinner (19), Dublin:I love reading scout survival guides from the time of Baden Powell. Medieval life in Ireland, China and Europe is one of my main areas of historical interest, especially the gastronomy and cooking techniques of that time. I am completely devoted to tea.

Gerard 'Panda' Terry (23), Ballycotton, Co Cork:Most people call me Panda. I have been doing living history and re-enactment since 2006. In my spare time I make clothes.

Emma Downey, 33, Co Donegal and Italy: I love the idea of fishing and foraging for food and hope that we will learn to milk cows, make butter or, better still, mead!

Dominic O'Neill (50), Dublin:Castles have always held a fascination for me: I wrote a play set in a castle, performed by UCD Drama Society. Fellow housemates should know that I am told I snore!

Bernie Levins (50), Co Louth:Knowing we will have free wine and hopefully a medieval banquet at the end will spur me on when I am cold and hungry.
