MARIE SCULLY AND Mark O'Doherty were married on December 28th in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Rathfeigh, Co Meath by Fr Dwayne Gavin. Despite the icy weather conditions, 100 guest arrived to to witness the traditional ceremony. The groom's 10-year-old niece and god-daughter, Laura Lynam, sang Ave Maria and the newly married couple surprised their guests by dancing back down the aisle in celebration to Abba's I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do.

Marie grew up in Drumquin, Co Tyrone, the second eldest of six children. Her late mother, Deirdre and her father Pat were both teachers in the local primary school, which each of the Scully children attended. Marie then went to Loreto Convent Grammar School in Omagh. She studied medicine at Trinity College Dublin and is now a GP and partner in the Abbey House medical practice in Navan. Her bridsmaids were her younger sister Anne N’jai, her niece and god-daughter Catherine N’jai, and Laura Lynam. Marie’s youngest niece, Riona Carruthers, was flowergirl. Mark grew up in Dalkey, Co Dublin, the second youngest of four children of Pat and Colman O’Doherty. He attended both primary and secondary schools at Presentation College, Glasthule, before studying economics and politics in UCD, followed by a postgraduate degree in marketing at the Smurfit Business School. Mark has worked over the years in both advertising and marketing roles for a variety of well-known companies in Dublin. His best man was his older brother, John O’Doherty.

The pair met in November 2005 while taking part in a 10-day charity trek in the Peruvian Andes for Concern. They sat together on the 14- hour flight to Lima and both say the trek was “a life-changing experience”. Three years later, Mark proposed while they were hiking in Yosemite National Park, during a Californian roadtrip. Following the church service, the wedding party made their way to Bellinter House for their reception. The couple missed the snow in early January while they honeymooned in Florida and on a week-long Caribbean cruise.
