Movie-lovers are in for a real treat next Saturday, May 5th, at the Sugar Club in Dublin 2, when Film Fatale screens Joseph L Mankiewicz’s Oscar-winning drama, All About Eve, followed by a 1950s ball.
A fantastically bitchy tale of betrayal, ambition and the theatre, All About Eve stars Bette Davis at her best as Margo Channing, an aging Broadway star who takes the seemingly naive ingenue Eve Harrington (Anne Baxter) under her wing, until Eve usurps Margo’s life and place on the stage.
Guests are invited to don their finest 1950s and vintage garb for the screening, which will be followed by a 1950s ball with live performances mirroring the film’s award ceremony, while Film Fatale’s resident DJs, The Andrews Sisters’ Brothers, will play music from the era.
The brainchild of Fernanda Parente and Anna Taylor, Film Fatale is a monthly event celebrating the golden age of cinema, with lots of old-school Hollywood glamour, cocktails and dancing. At last month's screening of Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest, cigarette girls served popcorn to a packed house of Don and Betty Draper look-alikes, and once the credits rolled, we danced the night away. Doors from 8pm. Tickets €15 from entertainment.ie; or €5 on the door from 11pm for the ball only. See filmfataleevents.blogspot.com.
