AMANDA EDMUNDS AND Alan McEvoy were married recently in the Sacred Heart Church, Darrara, Clonakilty in West Cork by Fr Edward Collins. Their reception was held afterwards at the Inchydoney Island Lodge and Spa, where they both work.

Amanda’s family moved from Britain to Clonakilty in 1991. She is the daughter of Stephen and Karen Edmunds, and has one older brother, Paul and a younger sister, Lucy Anne. She attended the Sacred Heart School in Clonakilty and has worked in the hotel ever since. Her sister Lucy Anne and her good friend and brother’s girlfriend, Sharon O’Brien, acted as her bridesmaids.

Alan is from Shercock, Co Cavan, the son of JJ and Rose McEvoy, with five brothers and two sisters. He attended Baillieborough Community School and Cavan College of Further Studies, where he qualified in computer studies and also won an All Ireland college medal in football. He had been working in the Nuremore Hotel in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, when he first met Amanda. His brother Glen was his best man and Amanda’s brother Paul acted as groomsman.

The bride bought her dress on eBay for €99, and their chocolate biscuit wedding cake was made by a neighbour, Louise Manning. “My Uncle Bob drove me to the church with my Dad in his old Morris Minor. We walked up the aisle at a pace, and when I looked up I saw Alan smiling down at me with a tear in his eye and all my nerves went away.”

All the guests were asked to bring wellies to enjoy walks on the strand. After the reception and “afters” in Ellen O’Mahony’s local pub, they went on a mini honeymoon around Ireland. “In April, we will be travelling around India with my mum, dad, Lucy Anne and our good friend Shen,” says Amanda.

For the moment, they are living with Amanda’s family, but will be moving into their own home soon.
