Volkswagen Golf goes fully electric

e-Golf can be charged with a regular plug in 13 hours – or in eight with a free ESB box

Volkswagen has confirmed the price of its new, fully electric Volkswagen e-Golf at €32,660 (including a €5,000 SEAI Grant and a €5,000 VRT rebate).

Based on the regular Golf hatchback, the e-Golf can be charged from a three-pin socket. With a standard 230-volt, 2.3kW supply, this recharges the battery in 13 hours. An optional wall box for home use that provides a 3.6kW supply can recharge a flat battery in eight hours. The wall box is available at no cost through ESB ecars. Through use of the e-Golf's standard combined charging system and a DC supply, the battery can be fully recharged (at levels of up to 40kW) to 80 per cent capacity in just 35 minutes.

Orders are being taken from this week from Frank Keane Volkswagen, on Long Mile Road, Dublin, the e-Golf retailer for Ireland.
