Debbie Griffin ... pharmacy assistant in Ballyfermot
What was your first bike? I invested in an AR 80 in 1988. I used it every day to and from work, but I always knew I'd eventually get a "superbike".
Did you enjoy biking from the start? Yes, it gave me independence. I never had to rely on any of the lads for a lift. Having my own bike put me on the same level as some male chauvinists who didn't think a girl should ever be in the rider's seat on a bike.
Is there's a biking heritage in your family? Yes, Dad owned a few bikes in the 1960s, including a Honda 300. With him having an interest, there wasn't much of a problem aboutr me getting a bike. My family do worry, I'm sure. What family wouldn't?
What's your current bike? I've just got the bike of my dreams, a 2003 Yamaha R6 fuel injection. What attracted me to it was the power, the styling and the general look. It's an easy bike to ride for someone my size. It handles very well for me, it has lots of mid-range power and I can stay side by side with the boys on their big toys.
Your longest journey on the bike? I use the bike for pleasure, so I've stuck to trips in Ireland so far. I've been on the Way West Rally with the Dublin Motor Cycle Club to Clifden in Connemara - and a few Shamrock rallies in Ennistymon in County Clare with a group of R1s and GSXR 1000s.
What would be your dream road trip on your bike? Oh, I'd love to do the Route 66 trip in the US - with a group of Harleys over several weeks staying in luxury hotels all the way.
Ever had an accident on the bike? Yes. It was nothing serious. I'll just say there's a reason why cars have mirrors.
In you opinion, what's the best looking bike ever designed? The Yamaha R6, of course.
Did you go to the recent bike show at the RDS? Yes - I thought it was the best show so far in Ireland and I hope to see it here again soon. Congratulations to the organisers. It was head and shoulders above the Belfast bike show.
Any advice for aspiring female bikers? Yes, don't worry about being able to handle some of the larger machines. Go for something that suits you - and don't be put off.
