This is the next-generation Mercedes B-Class, due for launch next year.
The test car is mildly camouflaged, but it’s clear the German firm hopes to pitch the new version much closer to rivals such as the VW Golf and Audi A3. Due for launch at next year’s Geneva motor show, the car will feature a new front-wheel-drive platform that will also underpin the next A-Class, as well as a future compact SUV and a small saloon model. Smaller engines will be supplied by Renault and sold alongside larger in-house engines. A plug-in hybrid, an all-electric and a fuel-cell variant are all in the pipeline.
