BMW IS to introduce the flagship 760Li long-wheelbase version in September, although we don’t expect to see too many carrying ‘09 or even ‘10 number plates. Powered by a new V12 6-litre twin-turbo engine the car features BMW’s new eight-speed automatice transmission, following on from rivals Lexus with its LS.

The new V12 produces 544hp and 750Nm of torque and, despite its size and stature, manages 0-100km/h in a remarkable 4.6 seconds. Its fuel consumption is less stellar: at a combined consumption figure of 13l/100km (21.7mpg) and an emissions level of 303g/km.

Of most import to its owners will be the rear space and BMW claims the new car offers the most rear space in the luxury saloon class, with an additional 14cm of legroom for rear seat passengers over a standard wheelbase BMW 7 Series.

The interior features steel door entry trims, nappa leather, the roof lining and sun visors in Alcantara, and exclusive burr walnut interior trim with individual inlays.

Individually heated and multi-adjustable seats for both front and rear seat passengers are standard.

These can be complemented by optional air-conditioned seats that can also be fitted, in the rear, with a massaging capability, and BMW’s Professional Multimedia navigation system with 12 gigabyte hard drive.

BMW expects most of its sales to be in the Asian markets, where economies are performing stronger than their European counterparts.
