Zoe Developments has been refused planning permission to develop a 206-bedroom hotel and leisure centre as part of a large residential scheme on a site between Barrow Street and South Lotts Road in Ringsend, Dublin 4. However, the city planners have cleared the way for 655 apartments and townhouses on the 7.8-acre site which Zoe bought from Bord Gais Eireann for around £8 million.
The centrepiece of the scheme will be a new circular building within the frame of a Victorian gasometer. The 220,000 sq ft building will have 205 apartments, most of them large twobedroom units, on nine floors. Car parking will be provided on four floors under the gasometer. The vast majority of the 676 car parking spaces will be provided in the drums of the two old gasholders on the site. Zoe has also been granted permission to remove contaminated soil from the site.
