UCD plans large student centre: UCD HAS applied for planning permission for an 11,100sq m (119,479sq ft) student learning, leisure and sports complex on a 4.67-acre site currently used as a games pitch and landscaped space near the National Hockey Stadium and Sports Centre building at its Belfield campus in Dublin 4.
The proposal is for a two-storey and three-storey building with an atrium that incorporates a 50-metre swimming pool and a wellness centre, fitness centre with aerobics and dance studios, a debating chamber, drama theatre, multimedia and seminar rooms, a student media centre, health facilities and shops and a space for a café.
A parking area - with enough space to accommodate 140 cars - is also included in the plans.
Locals appeal D4 extension
SANDYMOUNT AND Merrion Residents Association has appealed developer Bryan Cullen's proposal to extend and add an extra floor to his apartment development at Sandymount Castle Road and Gilford Road in Dublin 4.
The developer wants to add a penthouse floor to one of his apartment blocks - bringing it to up five storeys - and extend the third floor and increase the space for car-parking.
Among their concerns residents say the increased height will overshadow properties on Durham Road and Gilford Road.
They also have an issue with the developer's proposal for site access from Sandymount Castle Park.
