Bord says yes to 70m D2 plan:An Bord Pleanála has granted planning permission for a €70m residential scheme being developed by Clondean Ltd (made up of Francis Rhatigan, Chris Jones and Mark Sloan) at the 0.39-hectare former OPW site on Lad Lane in Dublin 2.
Designed by Shay Cleary Architects, it will include a gym, cinema, hospitality suite and conference room. But the board reduced the number of apartments from 94 to 83 in four blocks. The site was purchased for €22.5m in 2004. Locals, mainly residents of the nearby Court Apartments, objected to the scheme.
Plan for 64 homes in Howth appealed
Hillwatch is appealing planning permission granted by Fingal County Council for a 64-unit residential development on lands south of Martello Tower, Balscadden Road, Howth, Co Dublin because "it turns its back on the village in an unsocial way".
The group says the importance of this site to Howth village - both visually and historically - led it to be zoned amenity land in the local development plan. It says the design is more suited to a dense urban space than a fishing village. Hillwatch is one of seven appellants to the development.
