541 apartments for Ballinteer: Dorville Homes and O'Malley Construction have got planning permission from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for 541 apartments near Wesley College in Ballinteer, Dublin 18.

The proposed development on a 6.8-hectare centre at Gort Muire, near the Wyckham Way, comprises 367 two-bed apartments, 104 one-beds and 70 three-beds in three blocks ranging from three to 10 storeys.

A crèche is also proposed, as is the upgrading of the Wyckham Way where it fronts the development site.

Strandsend Ltd is looking to build six five-bed houses in the grounds of Cornelscourt House, a protected structure on the Old Bray Road, Foxrock, Dublin 18. Earlier this year plans to build 23 apartments in the grounds were turned down by An Bord Pleanála.

Strandsend Ltd, whose directors are Brian Durkan, Anthony Durkan and Geraldine Carter, was seeking permission to turn the mid-19th century house into three apartments and to build eight apartments in a three-storey block, four terraced mews houses, and convert the rear outbuildings to two mews apartments.

The planning board refused permission on the grounds that the scheme would be "seriously detrimental" to the character and setting of the protected structure.

Strandsend bought the 929sq m (10,000sq ft) Victorian property, which was originally built for a Church of Ireland rector, for around €4.3 million three years ago.

Cabinteely apartments rejected

A developer has been refused permission to build 37 apartments at Auburn Road, Cabinteely, Dublin 18.

Among An Bord Pleanála grounds for refusal was that the layout of the four-storey block would constitute disorderly development and provide a substandard pedestrian access across these lands.

The decision will be welcomed by the three residents groups which appealed planning permission given for the development - Gerry Glennon and others, Johnstown Residents Association and the residents of Auburn Road and Woodley Road.

Among their concerns is that the layout would create a barrier to the openness of the area when viewed from Auburn Road, would constitute over-development of the site and would overlook the school playgrounds.
