THE OWNER of 511 Pearse Villas loves period dramas and says the livingroom is inspired by the cosy interiors of the Victorian era, albeit a toned down contemporary version.

The shelving helps give the room a busy Victorian parlour feel and displays an eclectic array of photographs, ornaments and books. A similar piece using white deal wood would cost around €250, says carpenter Derek Geoghegan.

Also part of the look are the buttoned green reproduction sofa and chairs bought at Buckleys Auction Rooms (01 284 4717) five years ago for €200. The reproduction gilt mirror is another Buckleys purchase.

The original pine floorboards were seamlessly extended to a section of the floor around the couch by Assured Sanding (www.assuredsanding.ie and 01 275 0992) which does virtually dust-free sanding.
