Rock star Jim Kerr is selling his Killiney home, a large period house on two acres, Killiney House, at Killiney Hill Road, Co Dublin. The lead singer with Simple Minds, who also has a home in Scotland, has not lived in Dublin on a full-time basis for several years. He bought Killiney House in 1992 and lived there with his wife, Patsy Kensit, who is now married to Oasis singer Liam Gallagher.
The property will be auctioned by Hamilton Osborne King on April 27th. Selling agent Herbert O'Reilly expects it to make in excess of £2 million. Reputed to be the oldest house in Killiney, Killiney House is also one of the finest homes on the hill with its superb tiered gardens and sunny orientation. It is a very private property, set well back from the road and hidden behind high electronically controlled gates. Apart from the main house, there is a small guest or staff cottage and a disused Victorian coach-house that could be restored and used as a separate dwelling since there is a second entrance to the property near the coach-house.
Killiney House itself is a handsome, creeper-clad two-storey house that has a surprisingly old-fashioned feel to it. There is nothing remotely flashy about the interior and viewers expecting an insight into rock and roll living will be disappointed. It is in very good decorative order throughout, and the main bedroom suite, which stretches right across the front of the house upstairs, is particularly attractive. There are several reception rooms, including a 22 ft long drawing-room with a window seat and an impressive Victorian-style fireplace. There is also a very large formal dining-room, a family room and a study.
The Smallbone fitted kitchen, with an Amtico tiled floor and Corian worktops, opens into a conservatory. Upstairs, apart from the main bedroom suite, there is a guest bedroom suite, and two more bedrooms that share an en suite bathroom.
