Go for anything close to the LUAS and get in sooner rather than later because house prices will shoot up in these areas. The estates off Sandyford Road and Barton Road East in Ballinteer are still good value.

Ex-corporation houses are very popular with first-time buyers. Houses on St Columbanus and Farranboley are still under £160,000. Three-bedroom semis on Barton Road East are also a good buy and you can still get a good three-bedroom semi in the Balally area for under £200,000.

Look at the LUAS line. The back of the shopping centre around Laurel Drive and Sweetmount and Barton Road East are good value because the bypass will take traffic away from these streets - yet they are within walking distance of the LUAS.

Balally, Wedgewood, anything within a walk of the LUAS is a good bet, but most property is worth buying just now in Dundrum. Houses in the Taney area will also go up because it is close to the old Harcourt line.
