Buying your own home rather than paying rent "makes sense", according to Sanjay Samuel, 40, who moved to Ireland a year ago to join his wife Jacinta, who has been working as a midwife in the Rotunda Hospital for the last two years.
Sanjay, his wife and their two children, Charlotte (9) and Jason (4) have been renting in Middle Gardiner Street for over a year now. The family is planning on staying in Ireland for life and buying their own home is the only way forward, he says. Lots of people from India are looking into buying their own homes in Dublin, according to Sanjay, with some buying in Lucan, Clonsilla and Swords.
Securing a mortgage with two salaries was not difficult and Sanjay was able to get a home loan very quickly. The couple have just bought a three-bedroom bungalow in Larch Hill, Santry, which cost them 325,000. They hope to move into the house in the early New Year and are currently deciding on school options for their children.
There is not much difference between the rent the family pays for the two-bed in Middle Gardiner Street and what they will be paying for their new home. The big difference, however, is "we own our own home now", says Sanjay."It's a much bigger house and we are very happy to move."
