IT WAS JUST like the old days, according to estate agent Martin O’Mahony who had over 80 parties show up at an open viewing of a house in Dalkey last weekend.
The attraction? A low-sounding price – €625,000 for the large Victorian cottage on Carysfort Road – and the fact that it is being sold by executors.
This seems to grab the attention of househunters who realise that the property will be sold come what may. O’Mahony plans to auction the property for this reason, but even so was surprised at the turnout, especially since the viewing was timed just before the start of the Ireland-Wales match last Saturday.
Meanwhile it has been much the same story for Wesley Rothwell (below) of CB Richard Ellis who is currently marketing a mews site off Camden Street. He has had more than 50 enquiries and several formal bids for the 100sq m (1,076sq ft) site at the rear of 45 Harrington Street in Dublin 8.
Most of the interest has come from “small builders and small investors” who are obviously looking for a bargain, and something to do with their time or their spare cash – or in some cases their loan from the credit union.
A previous planning permission for a three-bedroom mews on the site ran out in 2008 but, according to Rothwell, this establishes a planning precedent.
