Dun an Oir, a 1930s detached bungalow on Ballinclea Road, Killiney, Co Dublin, is expected to fetch about £475,000 at a Lisney auction on November 10th.

Recently refurbished with a great deal of thought and care, the 1,340 sq ft house has maintained plenty of its original features while acquiring lots of mod cons. It has three bedrooms, two reception rooms and large, cultivated gardens to the front and rear.

At the front, a well-kept lawn, with a holly tree and redbrick pathway, climbs gently to the curved, porch entrance. With quarry tiles underfoot, this leads to a front door with leaded glass inset.

The drawingroom and diningroom are to the left of the hallway while the other rooms, in typical bungalow fashion, open off a corridor to the rear of the house. The drawingroom has a wide bay window with decorative glass detail along the top. There is a picture rail and centre rose and a very fine fireplace with fossilised limestone surround and Liscannor slate inset - replicated exactly in the diningroom, which is reached through folding, double doors. French doors open from the diningroom to the rear garden.

The kitchen-cum-diningroom maintains something of the mood of the original. The walls are deep coral colour and the white painted units were modelled on the original fitted dresser while "bun" knobs have been fitted to drawers and doors everywhere.

The original fireplace, now restored, has a gleaming mahogany surround and cast-iron inset. New hearth tiles were chosen carefully to approximate the originals. A glazed door leads to the garden and allows light into the kitchen. Integrated appliances, such as a Scholtes oven, ceramic hob and dishwasher, will remain. Elsewhere in the house, fitted carpets and curtains are to be included in the sale.

The main bedroom, where a golden yellow predominates in carpet and wallpaper, is en suite and has a wide window overlooking the front garden. A feature of this, and the second bedroom, is the castiron surround fireplace with its Liscannor slate inset and hearth. The en suite is completely tiled and has a shower, lavatory and wash-hand basin.

The second bedroom, also to the front of the house, has a bank of built-in wardrobes and is, again, decorated in golden yellow colours. The smallest of the three bedrooms also has good built in storage and a restful green and while colour scheme. It overlooks the rear garden and is painted in green and white. The family bathroom is white tiled and has an Amtico floor. It has a bath with power shower fitting, wash-hand basin and lavatory and the partly white-tiled walls have an attractive blue feature tile inset.

To the side of the house is a garage which has been partly converted to make a comprehensive utility room. Three small outhouses are in use as a lavatory, boiler and garden shed. The rear garden has a raised rockery and flower beds along the back wall, as well as a lawn.
