DUBLIN GEORGIAN houses made such a big bang, that the Victorians haven’t had much of a look-in, but a handsome book by Michael Barry – Victorian Dublin Revealed: the Remarkable Legacy of Nineteenth-Century Dublin (Andalus Press, €24.99) – addresses that.

He points to the many suburban houses and city commercial buildings and churches, saying that once he began researching the book he found “there are probably more remains of that era in Dublin than in most comparable cities”.

It’s a handsome book full of pictures of every kind of Victorian building.
