WE ALL KNOW house prices have taken a nosedive since the boom but what about Churchill House at 12 Ballymun Road, Glasnevin, D9, known locally as the Old Dairy which has fallen in value by a whopping 63 per cent. The current owners bought it for €2.16m in 2005, and got permission to extend and refurbish it but now they are selling up - at €795,000.
The listed double-fronted Victorian house has the remains of the old cow sheds that were part of the dairy to the rear. The grounds extend to around 0.25 of an acre. The agent, Lisney, says the planning permission is for a 372sq m (4,000sq ft) five-bed house – it is currently 319sq m (3,422sq ft). The house needs a complete overhaul and would probably cost €450,000 to €500,000 to refurbish "but for that you get a mighty house in the middle of Glasnevin" says Darren Chambers of Lisney.
