PENNEYS has secured planning permission for an international-style department store which will be based on their present premises at Mary Street, Dublin 1. Primark, the holding company for Penneys in Ireland and the UK, is to redevelop the existing building to provide a mixed-use development on six levels over basement. The scheme will include 37 apartments and a multi-storey car-park for 410 cars.
Designed by architect Sam Stephenson, the complex will be on classical lines with the residential complex located around a large internal roof garden. The present Victorian facade will be retained and repeated throughout the extension to the building.
In the same area of the city, Carmel McLoughlin has been refused planning permission for a four-storey over basement development at 29/36 Wolfe Tone Street, which would include retail and office space and a multi-storey car-park for 418 spaces.
