FOR THOSE who like a bit of order in their lives the library at Wynyard, Saval Park Road is all about symmetry. The book shelving is central to the erudite feel of the room and has a square grid structure.
The interior designer was inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement and the shelving was made by a carpenter. The inner casing is painted in Farrow and Ball’s Slipper Satin but has an olive green edging. Try Colortrend’s Palm House Fountain. Minnie Peters has a similar (01 293 3919) bookshelf available in a variety of sizes – prices range from €4,200 and are available in weather-beaten wood, and painted finishes.
The 1930s lampshades attached to the shelving unit were purchased in Boston and rewired by a lighting shop. This service can cost as little as €20-€30 per lampshade depending on the fabric used. A symmetrical room needs furniture and accessories that come in pairs. The green velvet chairs came from a store that has since closed but Duff Tisdall (01 2051119) can custom-make similar ones for €1,600-€1,900, each depending on fabric. Minnie Peters has a similar style of armchair ranging from €1,250 each. The fireplace is the Palmerson polished cast-iron fireplace from Buckleys Fireplaces (01 2936952) and cost around €1,700. A similar fully upholstered Club armchair is available at €725 from Flanagans of Mount Merrion. The dark wenge floor was specially ordered through M Kelly Interiors (01 2851444) and cost around €150 per sq m including VAT.
