STILLORGAN €2.6m:An 1830s house on 1.5 acres is well screened from a development built in part of its back garden, writes ORNA MULCAHY,Property Editor
DUNSTAFFNAGE House in Stillorgan, Co Dublin, lost a good deal of its garden over a decade ago when a development company bought part of its grounds to build houses and apartments in a scheme called Dunstaffnage Hall.
However, 1.5 acres of walled grounds remain around the Georgian house situated on the Old Stillorgan Road. The gardens include a thriving kitchen garden that produces vegetables and fruit year round.
Now the family which has lived here for decades has decided to sell up and Colliers International is asking €2.6 million for the seven-bedroom house and garden which comes complete with swimming pool and woodland.
It’s well screened from the modern development and accessed via a sheltered avenue lined with old-style railings.
The two-storey house which dates from around 1830 is in need of a major overhaul, though some refurbishment has taken place. For instance a series of solar panels on the roof now provide hot water. It’s a large house with 395sq m (4,250sq ft) of living space that includes a fine double drawingroom running from front to back of the house, a separate livingroom with French doors to the garden, a panelled diningroom and a garden room that opens onto a patio leading to the swimming pool.
The first of the bedrooms on the ground floor has access to the garden. A separate one-bedroom coach-house offers possibilities for development while there is also a detached garage.
Viewing is by apointment only with selling agent Peter Kenny.
