SANDYCOVE: €1.5MONE OF A HANDFUL of seaside houses designed by architect Michael Scott in Sandycove, Co Dublin, is for sale at €1.5 million through Lisney.

Tig Mhuire is a three-bedroom semi-detached house built in the 1950s with the flat roof, plaster façade and curvilinear elements synonymous with the style of the time.

Unlike Scott's own house in Sandycove, perched above the Forty Foot and exposed on three sides, Tig Mhuire is in a sequestered location on a laneway off Sandycove Avenue East. But it is still only two minutes from the beach and, as an added attraction, is at the end of the laneway. Granite steps lead to a very private rocky cove.

This house, which extends to 185sq m (2,000sq ft), was built by Scott for his two sisters. It was originally laid out as two separate apartments: one on the ground floor and the other on the first.

The current owner, an interior designer, bought the property about 15 years ago and converted it into one house. She added the curving staircase with glass blocks to the front of the house and changed the internal configuration of rooms with sensitivity.

You enter into a square-ish hall and then a living and dining area that runs the width of the house to the rear. Floor-to-ceiling windows look to the garden. The kitchen is to the front of the house and has a utility and office area off it.

Upstairs there is a room to the rear that is used as a livingroom but could also act as a bedroom. A good-sized balcony opens off this. There are two other bedrooms at this level and a family bathroom. The main bedroom has an en suite shower and walk-in closet.

There is a parking to the front.
